Shooting of flitter

I need some help please. I'm in the mission where you scout out the Marauder's system. I managed to find all of the bases and acquire a flitter. The problem is when I go back to HQ, the gunstars pound the daylights out of the flitter. I've even tried approaching close to the base to see if there was some dialog, but the gunstars opened up on me when I got inside of 11 km. Could someone tell me what I've missed? I've looked through the FAQ's, but it doesn't look as if anyone else has had this problem. Thanks in advance for the help.

Er...never heard of that one before. It sounds like they're seeing you, and then opening fire. You are undocking from it far, far away, flying in, docking to the part and then flying the part back to your ship, right? It's painful since the engines are crap on the flitter and that thing is heavy, but not being seen is your #1 concern.

Actually, that's one thing I haven't tried. I know there's a limitation on the REM link so I've been getting within 20 km. I'll try undocking further away and see what happens. Thanks for the suggestion.

This should not happen --obviously. Park the Comsec 20-30 km away from the base where the antenna is located. Remote pilot it slowly in using throttle only (no thrusters). Docking to the antenna and bringing it back to the Comsec should be a piece of cake. Again use throttle only and be patient with the slow progress. There's no reason why the base should be shooting at a lone maintenance flitter unless there's some basic bug in your game's AI. The only real challenge in this mission comes a little later when you have to steal a field generator.

Thanks for the help. The folks on this website really are a nice group of people. I managed to find my problem. I had to remove the station save and free form mods. This solved the problem, when I return to the HQ, there were no gunstars. Now I'm trying to target those umbilicals. This game is great and frustrating at the same time. No wonder I just keep coming back to it. Once again thanks for the help.

Did you notice that after the League said you were the only one who had a Comsec (and therefore were chosen for the job), the League ship that picked you up had a Comsec exactly like yours? As good as this game is, the are several little "inconsistencies" like this throughout.
