Docking issues

Not solved completly, but yes, there is a problem on the CasinoStation. I think I've fixed it by removing the 180 degree rotation but I'll gladly send you the files to check if you don't mind. Which files would you need? just the .lws?
(apparently we've both been working on this at the same time)

I do have backed up copies of all the files you sent me so there is no worry there.

The remaining problem is they still seesaw back and forth a couple of times and have trouble getting lined up correctly. I dunno why for sure but I have a couple of ideas.

As soon as I get the test hull for the SD I'll be able to say more.

I explained why in the previous post.

As soon as I get the test hull for the SD I'll be able to say more.

Don't you have it aleady? I mailed it this afternoon.

The reason it worked when you reversed the null on the ship was because both dockports were then facing the same way. But I'll bet they won't dock well anywhere else.

Have you docked those ships to anything other than a station? They should zoom right in and dock. (They sure did for me! In under 5 seconds each.)

To clear up the misunderstanding: You're quite right about the dockport on the casino Station being reversed. After changing that and using the last .lws you sent for the A- and X-Wing, they now dock properly to the station with the nose facing away from the dockport.

Yes, I have docked them to other ships, after all thats what the Bot Cuv is for ;) (but not a good test because it is force docked after the first attempt)
I've also docked them to the immobile cargopods on the maps too.
(thats how I discovered that the ports on the station must be wrong and could confirm your findings)

But, one of the things I've always been concerned about, is the Seesaw effect. Although not as bad as with the incorrect dockport rotation on the stations, it's still there. The ships on average make 3 or 4 attempts to dock before they actully lock to the other port [V] Each time they try to dock they move back and forth through the dock port.
(You can only test this properly in the game, so I hope the issue is fixed with your batch and win2k soon.)

Do different dockport types have different virtual sizes? (thus effecting the line up process?)

Not in Lightwave. LW nulls have no dimension, they're just points in space.

*edit*
But they do have direction. And that controls the line-up process.

But, one of the things I've always been concerned about, is the Seesaw effect.

I'm going to have to see this in the mod, because I can't get the ships to have any docking trouble in any other scenarios. I'll try out that new batch you sent me today, thanks.

<font size="5">Docking Mystery Solved!</font id="size5">
<font size="4">Discovery purely coincidental!</font id="size4">

<font color="orange">API RebNews Flash!</font id="orange">

Discovered by a local photographer while positioning a Star destroyer for better light, the mystery behind the grief of many X-Wing pilots, and the reason for many pilots deaths, has been solved!

The mysterious and elusive occurances have often been observed by civilian pilots as well as during combat situations. It is commonly called the "seesaw" effect, and causes the docking autopilot on most rebel ships to oscillate back and forth at the dockport.

The photographer reports:
I was docking Tie Fighters and Tie Inteceptors to a Star Destroyer mock up. They docked perfectly but it was too dark to get clear shots of them. As I rotated the SD into a position to get better light on the scene, the same Ties suddenly displayed that horrible seesaw effect!

Our RebNews technical advisor stated:
This is great news!
The terrifying and often deadly docking issue is obviously dependent on the position of a stations dockport relevant to the universe !!! [?] [:0] [xx(] [V]
He continued to say:
No one would have ever guessed that a "Dork Force" exists parallel to 'the Force' and 'the Dark Force'!

Stocks of the "Stations Movers and Wreckers corp." are rocketing sky high today as Station administrators all over the universe are frantically placing orders to have thier stations rotated.

Captains of Mon Calamari cruisers and carriers, in combat situations, are advised to insure thier ship is positioned and aligned properly to compensate for the newly discovered "Dork Force"

A local Travel Magazine Editor said: "I'm very pleased to hear this news and will pass it on to my readers immediatly! At least this time it wasn't someones batch file that screwed things up!"

Darn! Even though the issue with the Stations is resolved now, it looks like we are going to have to change the docking orientation on the A-Wing and X-Wing.

This is because of the CUV bot! It will approach your vessel and stop, then it rams straight into you as it goes for the rear dockport. That can be fatal if you only have 2 or 3 hitpoints left!

This only happens, of course, if you let the Cuv bot approach from ahead of you. If he approaches from behind, or you turn around and show him your tailpipes before he gets close, he will dock just fine.

The Cuv docks with all other ships without ramming them.
