Mission 3, Act 1 "Joint Forces" was created by Mklangelo
Must I complete the side missions "Marauder's Cache" and "Run of the Mill: before this mission comes available? Just as a reminder, Marauder's cache is the locator beacon from Mr. Oregon(the Miner) and Run of the Mill is the attack on the ships near Cleitus Metal works.

Marauders Cache is a plot mission, so youre going to have to complete it. I cant recall Run of the Mill, I think its a sidemission which you can skip. In general, missions which simply involve stealing something for someone who emailed you, are side missions.

I have defended Oregon with no problem. Now I am to approach the beacon, take out the three Corvettes and recover the cargo there if I'm not missing the point. All my objectives say is to "check out the beacon" There are three Corvettes and a Transport named "FrieghtTransport" or some such. Amoung it's cargo are Hull Plates and Gattling Cannons. Apparently those are mine for the taking if I defeat the escorts... they are particularly aggressive. If I get to within 40 meters or so, their all over me like a cheap suit. LOL

It's not just the escorts; it's the gunstar automated weapon platform and the station cannons which make this difficult. Combined, these defenses are too much for any tug. Therefore you have to split them up.
The station and gunstar cannot move. So, what you're looking for is a way to lure the corvettes to you.
Stand off 40km from the station and order your wingmen to defend you. Then launch a single missile at each enemy covette. They should come out to you.
After you've handled them you can turn your attention to the station and gunstar.
