IFF Beacon Changer

I finished up a prototype IFF beacon changer. Here it is:

www.i-war2.com/epic/files/IFF.zip

Don't use this prototype with any Epic release. Files will conflict.

This version was made to work with FutureTrader and standard UniGUI. Note that this test prototype gives your free IFF beacons to make testing easier. (but perhaps someone could fly around and make sure IFF beacons can be purchased? thanks!) The design is intended to not let you change when near stations or hostile ships, but that code is commented out so you can test the IFF part easily. Please post comments or problems here.

From the ReadMe:
This mod will let you change your ships IFF code. This if very handy for
sneaking up on hostile factions.

To use the IFF changer, you need to purchase IFF Beacons using Future
Trader. Research and Manufacturing stations should sell these beacons.

Once you have some IFF Beacons open the UniGui Screen and select Change
IFF. The IFF Changer main screen will open.

Select the Faction that you wish to become by mouse clicking on the
faction. The Faction name will appear on the right.

Then press the Change IFF button.

If you have a beacon in your inventory, and you are not within 1000km of a
station, your IFF code will change to the one you select. If you get an
invalid beep, check the log file for the reason it refused.

Ending the IFF Change

You can change your IFF back at any time. Just open the IFF main screen
using UniGUI and select "Stop IFF". Your ships IFF will change back to
player standard.

Your IFF will also be changed back if you attack another ship. You will
have 30 seconds of delay, and then your IFF will revert to your player
value.

i personally would prefer the idea of buying IFF's off the black market...i.e. little tugs secretly giving me my nav beacon. Would also have an excuse to give some good 'ambush' missions in DOG.

I agree, on the sly is best. But I didn't want to put that much work into a prototype that would not end up in Epic. Does the change screen work for people? Clear as to what to do? How about needing to purchase an inventory of beacons? Does that idea work?

Ok heres the feedback on the IFF, GP

I LOVE IT.

debug

U allready have about 3 IFF codes in ur unigui inventory but when u activate it, instead of subtracting one from the list it adds one up. Is this intentional/testing purposes ?

U dont need to buy new ones from stations, because they add up automatically.

Now heres a few more suggestions and ideas I have about this wonderful tool.
U can do Piracy missions, without exposing urself too quickly that is true, but theres a whole new array of mission possibilities that can be generated from this.

For example, if this is combined with

- Ship Mail mod
- Remote Link mod
- Ifleet mod

we could be seeing generated missions like :

Capture of new prototype fighters (MAAS interceptor) from enemy bases or factions (for own use in own squadron or for payment). Havent tested it, but I think that this is allready possible in game with a little workaround if u use following mods.

-I fleet
-Rem link
-Beacon mod
-IFF code mod

-Ferrying of officials/VIP's from a friendly faction station to an unfriendly one.

-Helping Prisoners/Fugitives escape stations with fake police IFF code and getting them to Outlaw station or Capturing Fugitives (disabling ship with LDSI missiles/disruptors and docking)and getting them to police stations for rewards.

- Escorting VIP- , Officials- , Government- ships.

-joining up with a pirate clan and getting part of the loot.

- Pirating contraband cargo from specific freighter at specific base/location and delivering it to outlaw/pirate ship or base in exchange of cash.

If you could buy the IFF from a tug or an outlaw/smuggler station instead of a research/manufacturing station it would benefit realism.Does the game allow this ?
In short; this mod would allow you to get jobs, that can only be done if you are friendly to both opposing factions.

The idea of different beacons ready to be activated is even better.

peace out and great work, wish I could do the same!:D

Hi Dertien,

Glad you like it. Could you do a test for me? Make sure the beacons can be purchased somewhere in the Badlands? I would like to release this prototype to work with iFleet.

Have you tried launching turret fighters? (I did not) what faction do they become?

Right now the program adds a new beacon every time you open the screen. This is to make testing easy (you don't have to go find beacons for sale). But I will remove that feature now that it has been tried.

I am glad you brought up the idea. I like this design. It is simpler than the one I imagined for Epic, but it works just as well. Now I just need to add some code to save the players current faction.

Good mission ideas. I will add them to the list. I like the idea of working for two hostile factions.

The first few IFF using missions in Epic will be: 1. Spy on hostile bases and report fleet moves (navy stuff). 2. Dock to hostile stations and drop off spies. 3. Dock to hostile stations and hack into computer systems. 4. Get close to hostile station and attempt sabotage.
