Ok GP, I've done some extensive testing of this mod and heres the results.

PURCHASE IFF

The Rossywell Research station in Hoffers Wake, which looks deserted, has no comms and no traffic; doesnt sell anything, apart from the odd data packages here and there. Had no luck there to buy the IFF. This is probably due to futuretrader not beeing programmed for that base and not IFF being buggy. Furthermore, no scrollbar wos created for the menu on the left hand side in futuretrader.

I tried the Maas Electronix manufacture station in the same system and could successfully find the IFF beacon under the electronics submenu. COOL.

I tried a few more Research/Manufacture stations in the badlands. All were successful IFF beacon traders.

TURRET FIGHTERS

Turret fighters take the same IFF code as the ship they are docked to. Undock them and change the iff to a hostile faction, and Turret fighters will turn red on scope, but will not attack and still take orders from you. pfew!

Give them order to dock, and they will change IFF automatically to the one you have. Neat!

REM LINKED SHIPS (IFF + Rem link mod)

Went to Maas station with Neutral IFF, and remlinked to a fighter. Remlinked Fighter did not turn hostile. Fired on other Maas ship in vicinity with Remlink active, Maas ship went hostile, but did not fire. Neat! IFF beacon did not change.

Heres another test I did:

- Turned IFF neutral
- went to maas station, remote linked a freighter and drove it far away from its escorts
- Shot the ship to smithereens (wouldnt talk to me and let go its cargo)
- Called in jafs to pick up undestroyed loot.

Now I dont know if remote linked ships should turn hostile. If I have a Maas IFF and I remote link to a Maas freighter to fly it myself, there should be less doubt that I am hostile than if I remote link with a Neutral IFF. Trying Remlink on a hostile ship should give a bad rem link protocol.

just an IDEA: IFF+REMLINK

Dunno if this is possible, but could the Rem-link mod be adapted in a fashion, that if the IFF were friendly between my ship and a REM linked freighter, it would take about 5 minutes for your IFF to turn hostile, and with Neutral it would take 3 minutes?

Now, I dont know how the faction system is going to work in Epic, but heres how it works in Freelancer(sorry to bring up that lame excuse for a space sim again [:I])

Your Faction reputation ranking gets better when you do successful missions for factions that are friendly to you and it gets worse for the opposing factions. This is normal, as long as you do non covert missions.(it would show up in the news system on channel 57);) There are however NO Covert Ops in Freelancer. EOC however, has this possibility. It would be cool to get a better rep. for friendly factions and not get a bad rep with hostile factions, when doing covert ops.
Furthermore, a Skill ranking system would be cool too apart from the Faction Rep. If u have a low ranking (ELITE-type of game), you would not be able to buy that particular ship/technology unless you rank up. Ranking up, could be connected to successful/unsuccessful completion of missions and/or to killscore.

IFF+IFLEET

Superb idea. period.

I really enjoy this mod very much, and I thank you for it, SIR. Cant wait to get my hands on the real baby, wheter or not it works with Ifleet or Remlink.

PS.I have a few more mission ideas and will post them in the according forum, in order not to clutter this IFF thread.

Peace out !

CORRECTION

In my last post I wrote:

should be:

A few more things I noticed, while futher testing. The 1000 Km radius around bases that the IFF is not allowed to enable, doesn't work. I could change it without a problem while in close vicinity to one.

Do not change your IFF when you deployed seeker mines. They are not as smart as ur turret fighter pilots and home in on you.

Peace out !

One more thing.

Wile attacking a convoy to loot its cargo, it should be impossible, just as with the station close, to change your IFF. (it is possible now)

So it should not be possible with ships in vicinity (on scope) or with stations in vicinity, 1000 km.

Peace out !

Hi Dertien,

Thanks for all the testing. Very interesting results.

The 1000km bug was intended (to make testing easy). But I will fix that for next release.

IFF Change and other ships.

Should a player be blocked from changing if there is any ship nearby? Or allowed if all nearby ships are player faction? Or allowed if all nearby ships are friendly or better standing?

Hello GP,

Firt of all, Happy new year to everyone.
was seriously ill, and therefore wasnt online for a while.

I think it would be good to be able to change the iff if ships around you are friendly (blue). Not when they are neutral.

peace out !
