My ambitions scream at me, "Use the EoC cockpit for the turret and make all new cockpits for each ship!"SC, Do we want to use this cockpit (assuming we get permission or do your ambitions say otherwise ?

OK, How about this, SC:
You could make 2 new cockpits, one for the Imps and one for the Rebs.
Then make an 'upside down' version of the EOC cockpit (rotate it 180 degrees) for use on the lower turret of the Falcon.
That way we only need 2 new cockpits instead of one for every ship.

I've been wanting to learn how to make new cockpit graphics for some time. If I can help in any way, let me know. Maybe you could make one and I could make the other (with a little guidance and hand-holding from you?). At the very least, let me know how easy/hard it is to do. This would be a valuable thing to have a chapter or tutorial on for your modding guide, too...well for me at least.

Ok, let's try this again without deleting the post.
Ok, assuming everything goes exactly according to plan , and I get the ships finished on time; does anybody have any opinions on what the new cockpits should look like, or be based on? Seems to me the Tie Fighter cockpit could be pretty universal for the imps, but the rebels use a wider variety of ship designs.
Also, for the sake of "anti-confusion" let's call the gunners position "turret windows." This way we won't get discussions of them confused with discussions about the new cockpits (like I'm doing right now).

Great idea, but what about the Falcon? Nah, just kidding, I've had a Faclon cockpit in the works since long before the SW mod got started. [8D]You could make 2 new cockpits, one for the Imps and one for the Rebs.
Less great idea . The player is supposed to be upsidedown in relation to the ship, not upsidedown in the cockpit. There really isn't any reason not to use the same model for any turrets we have. If the cockpit model had a radically different shape at the top than at the bottom then I could see flipping it to try to achieve structural symmetry, but since the model is the same all around I don't see the point. I suppose this is possible. The hardest part right now is determining how big to make it. For all I know, the cockpit could be massively over-scaled to show the detail better. Let me see if I can contact the modeler who made the Starfury cockpit and find out what's involved in making one. Better yet, if anyone already knows him, ask him to contact me so we can discuss it. I'll also download the Starfury cockpit and have a look at it.
