Change Strafing to Coolie Hat was created by BarFly
Hello,
as you surely guess, i'm new to this board and i want to start with a question about reconfig my joystick - ooops. And i have no idea how to do it.
My Joystick is a Thrustmaster T-Flight Hotas X.
Rolling, nicking, thrust - works well.
But i would like to use my Coolie hat different.
In my other games, Elite Dangerous, X3TC and even in I-War 1, the coolie is setup for the lateral thrust.
How do i manage this at the Bindings.ini (default.ini) to get this working?
because i don't have the mind to program i do nee some kind of xxx for dummies.
I tried, without success the following change at the default.ini:
Any help is welcome
Thanx in Advance
Something about myself:
I'm German, 63 years of age, not retired (2.5 years left) and i still like, besides some other things, to play computer games.
I played and completed Independence War 1 in the 90ies, purchased EOC also right after it came out, but because of some circumstances could not play it. Now, with more time again, i found it on Steam, purchased it again (alo I-War 1) at Steam and installed it yesterday. today i wanted to play the game and at the tutorial i fifigured out, that i would like to have my usually joystick configuration.

Right, I checked the stick, and its hat switch inputs exactly the same as my [strike]absolutely worthless piece of garbage[/strike] Logitech Extreme 3d Pro. With that in mind, I opened the config file and added the underlined stuff:
; Thrusters
[icPlayerPilot.LateralX]
Keyboard, D
Keyboard, A, inverse
Joystick1, JoyXAxis, ALT
Joystick1, JoyPov1Right
Joystick1, JoyPov1Left, inverse
[icPlayerPilot.LateralY]
Joystick1, JoyYAxis, ALT
Joystick1, JoyPov1Up
Joystick1, JoyPov1Down, inverse
[icPlayerPilot.LateralZ]
Keyboard, W
Keyboard, S, inverse
Joystick1, Joybutton7
Joystick1, Joybutton8, inverse
Tested it and it works. I want to point out that X axis is left/right movement, Y axis is up/down movement, and Z axis is forward/back movement, so you did have something mapped incorrectly there.
Hat switch by default is bound to navigating the HUD menu. You might want to comment that bit out with the semicolon, like so:
;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
; iWar2 HUD commands
;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
[HUD.MenuLeft]
Keyboard, Left
;Joystick1, JoyPOV1Left
[HUD.MenuRight]
Keyboard, Right
;Joystick1, JoyPOV1Right
[HUD.MenuUp]
Keyboard, Up
;Joystick1, JoyPOV1Up
[HUD.MenuDown]
Keyboard, Down
;Joystick1, JoyPOV1Down
[HUD.MenuSelect]
Keyboard, Return
;Joystick1, JoyButton1
[HUD.MenuCancel]
Keyboard, Backspace
;Joystick1, JoyButton2
Let me know how it goes.

Also, you could use the keybinder that I made for EOC.
Oh wait... I haven't added joystick support yet. Forgot about that.
Anyways, IronDuke's explanation will do the job, and its always good to understand how the config files work for yourself.

Hello,
great! It works
Many thanx to IronDuke.
And also to Chessking for the warm welcome.
My next problem is, that i have a German keyboard. That means, a couple of things are different. But with the 'Keyboard Reference Card' and a printout of the English keyboard setup, i guess it will be not hard to get used to it
Another Problem that comes up is the zoom function. Originally it is at the NumPad, but my (gaming) keyboard has no NumPad.
I'm trying to get it bind to PgUp - ZoomIn and PgDn-ZoomOut
I choose one of this keyboards, because it is much smaller, throttle and stick are closer together, for me it is a much more comfortable position to sit and handle the controls Hehh i'm quite old.
Anyways, thanx a lot and have a nice weekend. I'll be back!
