They're not movies. They're real-time. The problem might be audio related, in which case check that you've got the correct Microsoft ADPCM sound codec installed.
You may like to play around with the sound acceleration settings in the multimedia control panel to see if that helps.

I'm having the exact same problem as the orginal poster.
Here are my specs:
PIII 800
512 MB PC800 RDRAM
Geforce 256
Soundblaster Live Value
Windows XP Pro
I copied the movies directory from the CD to the game directory on my hard drive. I then applied the No_CD hack from Gamecopyworld.com. I still freezes up. And it is VERY FRUSTRATING. Especially when Cal and Clay have 6 parts each and each part takes 30 seconds to unfreeze.
SO I checked my codecs, I had the codec that Stephen Robertson PS said was I needed. How can I tell if it's the right version of the codec? And where can I download the correct one if needed?
I've just installed WinXP (a clean install), so I'm not very familar with all areas. So what and where should I find the Sound Acceleration controls?

The audio hardware acceleration sliders are slightly hidden in XP.
To find them:
Open the Control Panel
Open the Sounds and Audio Devices control panel.
Click the Advanced button in the the speaker settings panel.
Select the Performance Tab
Try turning down the hardware acceleration slider.

Try this (but BACKUP your flux.ini FIRST)
I dunno if this will work, but it might be worth giving it a go:
Open your flux.ini (after making a backup copy) located in your main EoC directory. Scroll down till you find this bit:
[icHUD]
use_thick_lines = 0
flash_delay = 6
flash_frequency = 3
elements[0] = icHUDReferenceGrid
elements[1] = icHUDLagrangeIcon
elements[2] = icHUDWaypointIcon
elements[3] = icHUDBrackets
elements[4] = icHUDContrails
elements[5] = icHUDTargetMFD
elements[6] = icHUDWeapons
elements[7] = icHUDOrbRadar
elements<img src=icon_smile_8ball.gif border=0 align=middle> = icHUDShields
elements[9] = icHUDClock
elements[10] = icHUDContactList
elements[11] = icHUDReticle
elements[12] = icHUDMenuReticle
elements[13] = icHUDDebug
elements[14] = icHUDMessage
elements[15] = icHUDShipStatus
elements[16] = icHUDEditBoxElement
elements[17] = icHUDStarmap
elements[18] = icHUDEngineering
elements[19] = icHUDLog
elements[20] = icHUDObjectives
elements[21] = icHUDScore
delete "elements[14] = icHUDMessage" and see if that helps. You may need to renumber all the subsequent elements (so they go up to 20) or you may not.

I've tried all these solutions, but I STILL get this problem occurring. Also: Whenever I quit the game after these things start occurring, I get an error message when I'm back in Windows: It says loader.exe has to be shut down or something. Does anyone have any idea? I'd REALLY like to get this problem fixed.
My setup:
P3 800
ATI All-In-Wonder Radeon 32MB DDR
Sound Blaster PCI 128
256MB PC 100 RAM
Windows XP Pro
