Ok, heres the problem:
I recently had to uninstall and reinstall eoc for anumber of reasons. The problem now is that after reinstalling it, I cannot patch it up to the latest version. The patch program insists that the latest version is installed, even if I take eoc completely off the hard drive. The intall program also thinks eoc is installed even if it isn't. So the net result is I can't upgrade eoc. Does anyone no anyway to install the patch manually? if so please please tell me!

This is because the registry still thinks EoC was installed at its latest version (F14.6).
To solve:
Open up regedit (the usual warnings about backing up your registry, etc.)
use the tree view to go to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Particle-Systems\Edge of Chaos\Settings
on the right side, find the value "Version"
If it says e(14), then you need to change it to a(10), by double clicking it, and selecting the text, and typing a.
Then close the registry and all should be OK. Fingers crossed

Regedit is a piece of software for editing the Windows OS registry. The registry keeps, among other things, information about installed software and their resources.
Unless you absolutely know what you're doing, playing around with the registry is a definite no no. Even the tiniest of changes can screw it up and your OS along the way.
Before editing you should backup your registry (even this doesn't guarantee recovery) to lessen the chances of a screw up.
To run: click start, run and type regedit.
