Introduction:

The first Independence War game inspired many talented people to create their own missions. This compilation puts together all the custom missions created during the Good Old Days ;) of I-War scripting. This is a tribute to everyone who have contributed to the great Independence War community.

Enjoy!

1. INSTALLATION
---------------
Please note that this installation procedure cannot be reversed. If there are captains or any other files you would like to keep I suggest you make a backup copy of your Independence War installation.

Step 1: Install Independence War or Independence War - Defiance. Defiance is recommended since some custom missions require it.

Step 2: Install all patches (if any - the Special/Deluxe edition doesn't require patching)

Step 3: Extract all files in this zip package to the Independence War installation folder (with pathnames).

Step 4: Run "setup-legacypack.bat" batch file (just double click it) that is found in the Independence War installation folder if succesfully extracted the files.

Step 5: You can start the game with the "run-legacypack.bat" batch file, that allows you to also change the launch options. You can only launch the game with the defiance executable if you installed it under defiance and i-war executable if you installed the pack under Independence War classic. By default, the launcher assumes 3d mode with 800x600 resolution. If you want something else, you can change it from the run options menu.

Step 6: Once in the game, create a new captain. You can select custom missions from the mission selection menu just like you did in the regular game. Note that missions that were meant to be played in a sequence will become available after completing the first mission in the sequence. If you find some missions too hard, you can use cheat codes to unlock the next mission. I resorted to using this method since the interface doesn't allow having all missions available at once. Many of the missions are meant to be played in sequence anyway. I tried to group missions by the correct sequence or by author if no sequence exists.

Note for old Windows users (e.g. Win98, Win95):
If you have I-War installed on a legacy rig with an old operating system (Win95,Win98) use "run-legacypack_WIN98.bat" instead in step 5.

Advanced users:
Advanced user can choose to create their own launch shortcut instead of using the batch file provided. Just remember to include the -noslab option.

2. MISSIONS LIST AND MISSION SEQUENCES
--------------------------------------

Since the Independence War interface doesn't allow all missions to become visible at once I opted to create sequences of missions out of those missions that were meant to be played in order. The second mission in the sequence will become available after the first has been completed, etc. Here is a list of all included missions and their sequences (if any). If you want access to later missions in the sequence before completing the one before, you can use the cheat codes.

3. CREDITS
----------

I tried to keep the mission as close to what the author intended as possible, but some minor modifications to the mission script files and file names were necessary to make this compilation work. I took the liberty to make these changes if it was deemed necessary.

The following mission scripters created the custom mission in this compilation package:

Dreadnaught
Brett
Scott Benoit (aka Vurt)
Marco Kaas (aka Cormorant)
Thomas Hauke (aka Howard the Duck)
Thomas Beatty (aka SpooRancher)
Truan Hick (aka Dooby)
Anssi Luomaranta (aka Indie)

This package also contains the official mission development kit by Particle Systems. It can be found from IWar_Mission_Devkit -directory.

4. MISSION README FILES AND OTHER INCLUDED CONTENT
--------------------------------------------------

Many mission came with their separate readme files and other non-mission related content. These files have been kept in their original form and put to the psgresourcetextmissionxx folder along with the rest of the mission content. The installation instructions and other setup information in these files is no longer relevant, but there may be other material worth taking a look.
